Unit 24 Selection and Use of Coursebook Materials

When a teacher is planning a class he/she needs to use coursebook materials. Due that it helps teachers to use in the classroom a variety of aids to present and practice the language. As a consequence of this, students can improve their four skills (speaking, writing, listening and reading). Besides that, if teachers choose useful materials students can understand better the meaning and the context without any difficult. Most of the time, the teacher´s book is not enough as a classroom material. For that reason, teachers must select the right materials in order to guarantee students' learning. What is more,  workbooks are essential to send work at home and these help to reinforce what was learned in class. However, when the teacher selects the coursebook material or supplementary materials, he/she needs to take into account some factors such as: class profile that is a description of all the learners in the class, the level, age, gender and learner´s needs. Regarding this, from this unit I learnt that workbook are a very essential part of learning due that it helps to reinforce the students’ knowledge of the grammar. Also, if a topic is too difficult or too easy we can leave some parts even the whole unit.  By the way, as a future teacher I would take into consideration that motivation is also important due that it will help me to understand what topic I should change. As a conclusion, supplementary materials or coursebooks are essential aspects of the syllabus that an institute has. In other words,   it is part of teacher´s methodology.
