UNIT 25: Selection and Use of Supplementary Materials and Activities

 Supplementary materials are books and other materials we can use in addition to the coursebook. Furthermore, we can adapt many materials in order to use them with classes at different levels. In this case resources and web materials help learners to improve their language skills such as: vocabulary, context, grammar, and phonology. Furthermore, it helps learners to improve the language in this case English without too much difficulties.  What is more, supplementary materials come from authentic materials such as newspapers, magazines, articles and videos so, students can understand better what the teacher is talking about. Some institutions have coursebook syllabus and websites where they can download supplementary materials in order to create communicative activities with them, all of these supplementary materials help teachers to addapt the book and make the book easier to understand and if there are activities too easy, the teacher can make it more challengeable. Additionally, those coursebooks are organised and are presented in a logical and clear sequence for learning which is good. Regarding this, from this unit I learnt that all the materials are very helpful due that it helps the teacher to present and practice the language with students which is useful for both. Besides, I learnt that the teacher has to find the ways in order to give extra material to their students due that working only in the book can be harmful for students due that they need more activities to work on. Finally, as a future teacher I would adapt all the materials needed in order to help my students to acquire the language. Also, I consider that we have to be careful when giving instructions to students due that they have to follow procedures in order to facilitate understanding.
